Leslie Montgomery

Leslie Wayne Montgomery, 73, of Sesser, passed away Friday, March 31, 2000 at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.
Mr. Montgomery had been a coal miner for 39 years.  He was a member of Oak Grove Freewill Baptist Church for many years.  He was a veteran of the US Army, serving in the Pacific Theatre during WW II.
He was born August 30, 1926, the son of Lester and Oma (Weatherly) Montgomery.  He married Mary Ethel Harvey on May 24, 1945 and she preceded him in death on May 27, 1995.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary Elaine Hester and husband Jim of Sesser; grandchildren, Carrie Danielle Hester and Jimmy A. Hester II; four brothers and sisters, Doris June Newbury of Scheller, Wanda Joyce Dunavan of Springfield, Donald Eugene Montgomery of Sesser and Ronald Lloyd Montgomery and his mother.
He was preceded in death by his father; wife; one daughter, Jeanette Ann Montgomery and two brothers, Frank and Jimmy Montgomery.
Funeral services were Monday, April 3, at 11 a.m. at Brayfield-Gilbert Funeral Home in Sesser with REv. Dwight Dame and Rev. Bud Porter officiating.  Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery.
Friends were able to call  Sunday, April 2 after 6 p.m at Brayfield-Gilbert Funeral Home in Sesser.
